September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Share a Little Magic Month
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George is pleased to announce that September is “Share a Little Magic Month”. During the month our agency will be joining the other 128 agencies across the country in recognizing those individuals who help us create magic daily!
Our agency is committed to ensuring that “every child in Prince George who needs a mentor has a mentor”. Why Mentoring? It is simple, Mentoring Works! “As a preventive program, the benefits of mentoring have been well documented and have a positive effect on the community” says Tim Bennett, Interim Executive Director. “Each and every day we hear success stories about the power of mentoring and this is our opportunity to share with the community the stories of how their friends, neighbours and co-workers are creating magic for children and youth in Prince George.” Highlights of the 2011 Share a Little Magic Month include:
“Creating Change” for Local Kids at BC Liquor Stores:
During the month of September there will be donation collection jars at tills in all three of our Community’s BC Liquor Stores. These donation jars were designed by children in one of our Mentoring Programs. Until September 30th customers are encouraged to donate their change with all the proceeds going to support our agency’s free proactive community-based Mentoring Programs.

Run for Kids Sake:
On October 9th a team of RCMP members along with other members of the community will tackle the Royal Victoria Marathon (RVM) in Victoria BC. Some will run the full marathon (42.2 km) while most will do the half marathon (21.2km) - still a significant challenge. The goal, other than to complete the race - is to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters is an important part of the community’s strategy to support youth at risk, including those vulnerable for recruitment into criminal gangs. We want to help more children in our community be successful, through personal success and the success of our team at the RVM. Over the month of September the Run for Kids Sake team will be collecting pledges and soliciting sponsors to help them reach their goal of $25,000. On September 30th the Run for Kids Sake will be hosting a fundraising event and kick-off party. More information will be available on www.bbbspg.ca.
Corporate Benefit Events:
Over the month local companies and organizations have stepped up to help raise awareness and support for our agency. Join us Saturday September 10th at the Central Builders Tent Sale and Friday September 30th at the Prince George Cougars Tailgate Party. At both events there will be sponsored BBQ’s with all the proceeds donated to BBBSPG. There will also be tickets available for our September TV Raffle.
