Vanway Elementary helps Strike it Big

On March 3rd Vanway Elementary students in grades 4-7 from were the first elementary school in Prince George to participate in the Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Bowl for Kids Sake.   The 135 local students spent the last four weeks collecting pledges and their hard work raised $2,313.24 to support the local mentoring programs.   

“The atmosphere in the building was incredible” says Tim Bennett, Community Development Coordinator. “The kids had such a great time and it was the perfect way to start the 2 week countdown to the Bowl for Kids Sake event.”

 

Bowl for Kids Sake is scheduled for Sunday March 21st at Strike Zone.  “It’s not too late to sign up your team to bowl.  All funds raised will be used to support local children and youth.” There is no registration fee, participants collect pledges, and receive two hours of bowling and a chance to win some great prizes including a trip for two on WestJet’s regular scheduled service.  Register your team today by calling 563.7410 or visit www.bbbspg.ca.

BBBS Alumni Search supported by Keg Spirit Foundation

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George and the Keg Spirit Foundation is excited to be working together again to support youth living in Prince George.  The Keg Spirit Foundation has announced Big Brothers Big Sisters as their “Charity of choice” for 2009.  This past year Keg Spirit Foundation raised $1191.89 to support mentoring programs in Prince George.  “This is a part of our overall commitment of $102,502.19 to BBBS agencies and the National Alumni Program.  We truly believe (the Alumni Program) will help the reduction of waitlists. It is our sincere hope that this money will help in continuing the great work that you do for children in the Prince George Area” stated in a letter to our agency from Carolyn Torhjelm, Executive Director, The Keg Spirit Foundation. 

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George is calling out for all alumni to share their story. “For over 30 years our agency has been making a difference in the lives of local residents and we want to hear the stories from the over 6000 people that were part of the magic” says Tim Bennett Community Development Coordinator.  If you are a former Big, Little, Board Member, staff member or parent you are invited to an Alumni Wine and Cheese Social on Thursday February 4th from 6:00 – 8:00 at Two Rivers Art Gallery.  RSVP by January 22nd to 250.563.7410.      

Bowl for Kids Sake 2010

The Circus is coming...

It's that time of year again!  The 2010 Bowl for Kids Sake is quickly approaching.  On March 21st we are turning the Strike Zone into a three ring circus all to raise money to support our programs.  Get Involved!! Welcome Back Nancy!  Best Wishes Lana

Big Brothers Big Sisters is excited to welcome Nancy Thibeau back from her maternity leave.  Nancy will be working Monday to Friday 8:30 -4:30 and can be reached at nancy @ bbbspg.ca.  At the same time we would like to thank you and best wishes to Lana as she is leaving the BBBSPG team. 

Match Packages are ready for pick up

Attention Bigs! Your 2010 New Year’s Volunteer packages are ready for pick up at the office. Office hours are typically 830am – 430pm. If the office hours don’t work for you let Nancy know and alternate arrangements can be made. 

For those of you not aware of what the packages are or need a reminder, we have information that we need to get to you and that the agency needs from you so the information has been compiled into a package. You will find the following information in your package: 

  • An Offence declaration form or Criminal record check (Volunteers are required to complete Crim checks every 3 years and the years you do not complete a criminal record check you are required to fill out an offence declaration form. Crim checks need to be submitted to the downtown police detachment- no charge- bring your driver’s license),
  • An update on the discontinuation of the Share a little magic card,
  • A Bowl for Kids Sake Package (Note: Information required for the next match activity- Bowl for Kids Sake on March 21, 2010!)
  • A membership invoice (if you are interested in renewing your membership, don’t forget to bring your $5.00) and
  • An updated Special Event form (for if you are interested in helping out the agency in addition to being a Big).

Since 1979 Big Brothers Big Sisters has made a difference in the lives of over 6000 local residents.  We are now looking for all those people who helped us create magic.  All former bigs, littles, parents, and board members are invited to the first BBBSPG Alumni Social.  The event is Thurs. Earlier this year to celebrate our 30th Anniversary our agency gave away $30,000! 3rd Annual Bucks for Bigs! - UPDATED
The Prince George Cougars and A&A Burger Bar has partnered for the 3rd Annual Bucks for Bigs.  TODAY A&A will donated 10% of total sales and all coffee proceeds to our agency.  The Cougars will also be on location from 1-3 meeting fans, serving lunch and bussing tables.  Come out for lunch and help support local kids.
